Robotic Boat - CANOE Dataset

Developing the autonomy stack for a robotic boat

As my 2025 summer research internship @ the Autonomouse Space Robotics Laboratory and Robot Vision & Learning Lab, I joined the development of an Autonomous Surface Vessel platform for navigation and localization research. In this role, I performed highly interdisciplinary tasks, including CAD, thermal engineering, driver writing, and research into localization algorithms.

So far, we have collected over 12 TB of multimodal sensor data that will form the upcoming Canadian Aquatic Navigation for Observation of the Environment (CANOE) Dataset. This dataset is designed to challenge existing algorithms and push forward GPS-free navigation research in tough environments, with novel sensing modalities like radar and sonar in addition to standard robotics sensors.
